URBAN WILDERNESS

The project is located at Drömmarnas Kaj, which historically was a wetland; producing reed and acting as a habitat for seabirds. Proposed is an architectural form integrated in the landscape, relating to weather and carefully separating/integrating the flows of people and wilderness. The project is a contribution to the discussion on how we can claim waterfronts to create attractive urban environments, without erasing natural green or wild structures, and at the same time dealing with the struggle of artificiality.

Coexistence includes a gradient of separation between human activity and animal habitats.
No human movement – observation – total sharing of space.
When overlapping analysis of wind, sun, water and mobility together with topography
shapes and a system for orientation is created.
The buildings are gradually merged with the landscape and offer a variation of possible flows and movement.
The plan is displaying functions and how an inner path (including both built and informal tracks)
encourage you to not make shortcuts through habitats.
The artificial topography is, in some parts, made as a terraced landscape to create urban furniture and a place to socialize.
Along the quay the built structures are in form of outdoor shelters for humans and landscape functioning as animal habitats.
The architectural system displays a gradient of landscape integration between the different sizes,
creating various approaches to interstitial space.
