GÖTA HJÄRTA
Since Gothenburg is currently partitioned by the Göta Älv river, only connected by the two bridges, the city becomes divided into two different parts. These parts are not only divided physically but also socially since the bridges and the river today hardly offers any spaces for human interaction, focusing only on transportation. This project explores a creative solution between infrastructure, social space and the river to be able to span the gap between the two parts and make the city come together as one.
Here the three hybrid spaces come together seeking a solution to penetrate the barrier that is the river and create a social connector as much as a physical one between the two parts. The main concept of a social connector involves connecting the people of the two parts in every way possible. This connector spreads its roots out into each side of the river, leading the people to the centre of the city via a vast network coming together as one to connect the two parts of the city to a central hub.
In the middle of the river, where the networks come together under a mighty bridge the river is no longer empty and lifeless. A floating island full of social activities is connected to the two parts of the city via a vast network of parks and aqueduct. This structure, formed by the interconnecting networks of the hybrid spaces becomes an epicentre for activities in the middle of the city, connecting it into one.

The focus of this project has been to provide an inviting entrance point to the main structure located in the river while also retaining the core value of utilizing the often forgotten space below and at the foot of a bridge. This proposal uses this space as a performance pavilion, using the slope of the hill and the shelter provided by the bridge as a space for its audience. As the bridge acts as a large reflective surface for sound, a certain quality of loudness can be assured.
As the sound experience will be compromised by the muffled noise from traffic above, the goal has been to work with this noise, allowing it to be part of the overall experience by adding the atmosphe - ric quality of been hidden in the heart of a living city. The stage and its performances are not limited to entertaining the audience under the bridge, as people in the surrounding park are welcome to rest and take part of the show, while enjoying the view of Göta Hjärta.
The park is not limited to this area alone, but is imagined to continue along the waterfront. However, its main approach to expansion and to serve the city is its network of elevated parks with calm creeks running through them. The scale and shape of which being determined by, both the vo - lume of expected pedestrians and flow of water. It is imagined that the scale varies between what can be seen in this project and a thin strip of grass run - ning along relevant streets, connecting the city.
THE CULTURE CORE

For the centre part of the social connector, islands are connected with a park theme for social activity with cultural aspects. The islands are connected to a larger park area for outdoors activity and concert-like activity and events. The islands are decorated with vegetation and trees as a transitional aspect to the main park where visitors can enjoy park themed events and activities.
In the centre of the park two stages are situated, with the larger one facing the open park area, and the smaller one facing towards the floating platform area. The stages aim to serve small and medium scale performances and events, ranging from busker performances to small orchestras or concerts. Besides the stages supporting facilities for local staff members and performers are located.
The park area is open and spacious as opposed to the more conformed activities taking place around it. The socialising here is decided by the visitor but could also serve for events like outdoor cinema showings.
THE SOCIAL CONNECTOR

When the walking bridges of the aqueduct parks hit the island, they are met with a green park full of different activities. This project focuses on this meeting point between the three Hybrid Space Networks and on how they work together as one to connect the two parts of the city. The park sloping down along the outline of the central island moves upwards towards the center of the island, following the slope to its highest point. The park itself is divided into two different levels by a high wall, lowering itself in certain locations to let people pass through.
Throughout the park there are many different outdoors activities that can be found, everything from beach volley to tanning chairs. As well as several open areas for spontaneous activities. At the top of the hill there is another wall, here the design language changes as the social village takes over. This wall does as well change its height to let people pass through in strategic locations on their way to the new center of the city. Here rugged buildings shape the narrow streets with stairs moving between them leading down to the middle of the island.
The buildings, as well as their roofs brimming with social activities every hour of the day in this social connector. Here all sorts of activities can be found, inside the buildings everything from theatres to gym, and around them as well as on their roofs, marketplaces and cafes.
Between the roofs many small bridges stretch over, binding the levels together and connecting the social activities.
