SOCIAL MORPHOLOGIES

After analyzing the historical background of Gothenburg, multiple layers of pollution have given a different perspective on what the river is and how to use it. Therefore, our general problematization would be: Inherited pollution.

Taking a closer look at Gothenburg and at the areas around the Göta Älv river, accessibility to it and thus to the coastline is a main issue. This will be our concrete problematization.

We are therefore working with the idea of developing different scales of social interactions that change, evolve in function of the surrounding needs and morphologies. Creating a sequence of social experiences as well as atmospheres that merge and connect the surrounding discontinuities.

Different strategies: Through land, through water and through connections.

How do we become a Superstructure?

We all bring people to the coastline, overlooking the other structures. We are all part of superstructural landscape. However, our connection is not necessarily always a physical one. The merge is more about creating different levels of attractions through the observable landscape, through connections and therefore through different strategies of accessibility.

URBAN TUNNELS

Infrastructure: Tram tunnels

Human space: Gym and sport activities

Different tunnels, different functions

Large network- Tramlines combined with city functions. Connected to the smaller network in the river.

Small network- Tunnels with accessible walkways over the river with different functions in each tunnel.

Vertical junction
The nodes or junctions of the network are vertical cylinders with functions connected to the nearby tunnels. Functions such as continuing the activities, for example extra high roof for rope climbing, merging tunnels in between each other for long distance skiing. Functions such as, rooftop bar, cafes and saunas that are suitable for the nearby activities.

Plan and section
The circular section is divided by a general floor plan in each tunnel. Depending on the activity in the tunnel this floorplan can be cut for different levels. This gives the space a bigger variation and give perfect spaces for for eg. swimming pool, thermal systems and technical floor as well as more variation and greater heights of the room. The area underneath the general floor plan can also hold changing rooms and toilets.

PV PARK 2.0

Narrative: Imagine an alternate future. A park with a view. People strolling along the terassed landscape by the shoreline, moving on top of buil - dings and down to the water without boundaries. A riverside park and garden, reconnecting to the ocean heritage. An artificial high coast if you will. In this place, solar PVs constitute artificial trees - making them an integral and indispenable part of the landscape design.

Features: The park is creating new connections, from city centre to shoreline, unobstructed by highways, and making the idea of prohibited ac - cess obsolete. Its features include moving on top of buildings, to the middle of the building, to the ground level and even into the water. Different heights from terrasse to solar PVs generate different spatial experiences reminiscent of a forest. The shadows move about, perfectly suited for pro - tecting again the elements.

Objective: Creating a vision for the future. Envi - sioning renewable energy as something desirable. This is literally a solar park 2.0, and in many ways a PR effort. Envision the same space without them and something would be missing. If anything, this is the definition of a hybrid space.

EMOTIONAL SCAPES

How do we, by introducing one designed element as a tool, allow and create room for people to build the Culture of a place ? Time being the main element that helps and allows the evolution and meaning of a place, building its real Identity.

By introducing as a first step: the topography of structural pillars that interact with the wind flows, boats flows, currents, bathymetry, topography and pollution areas; we are designing a battlefield where our concept: different levels and layers of social interactions; can thrive.

As a second step, we introduce first a system of platforms which will be used as a direct connection between hard infrastructure which is the cranes and soft infrastructure which could be the movement of boats of all kinds. All together creating different levels of emotional and introspective hybrid spaces. The second system of platforms, would come as an evolution of this whole area.

When merging the structural pillars and the platforms, we start understanding how this area creates a complex diversity of sub-layers, of different cultures. From a cathedral (zoomed in section), to a groove, to different sizes of harbours or fishing areas. Where every zone grows, evolves and communicates vertically as well as horizontally in such diversity and subtility
