BROKEN NARRATIVES
Entities of Broken narratives have been discovered within the city of Gothenburg, as the city of islands, with highways clearly cutting the urban tissue. Our proposal is to create a unity via introducing a clear relationship to the water front, re-introducing the old railway on Ringön and diminishing the role of the highways. The aim of the work is to alter a human scale, in difference to the current state, so vehicle concentrated.
Proposing built topographies to regain the unity of Ringön. The built topographies are to diminish the importance of the roads, steer the mind towards nature and to reconnect with the river. Public machinery has the role of educating about empowerment. Connecting to the current ongoing activities of art hub facilities, yet not so visible. City within a city aims to function as parasite architecture, adding another dimension to the buildings, encouraging new types of functions.
Implementing the methodology investigating the old and the new and land strategies combined with water strategies. The paths are the connector between introduced interventions and also informs an alternative narrative. The paths are to be roads focusing on the human scale instead of the vehicle scale. Working on the portal area, so close to water, the humidity of the soil will create excellent opportunities for further implemented vegetation.

CITY WITHIN A CITY
Aleksandra Suszczak
By introducing a new set of railways which is corresponding and following the path of the previous one a goal to connect the city of islands is implemented. The cranes are able to slide on the rail and by those means establish a connection between the broken narratives present in the city. The movement of the structure is present throught the plan and brings dynamism to the whole intervention which is in juxtaposition to the stillness of Ringön
Parasite architecture creates a structure of a city within the city adding various layers of functions to the neighbourhood. Different levels of privacy are being introduced, starting from the bottom of the design with an urban playground, raising to the garden spaces and topping it with intimate view points. The project is aimed to enhance the effect that built topographies and public machinery already has on the area.
Constant crane movement allows the structure to be modified at any time and moved into a different place. It can be adjasted to the needs of the users and can both spread and shrink if needed to. By working with fulls and voids a rich level of diversity is evoked in the structure which also ensures the viewers interest in exploring the designed space. Introduced paths meander throught the city within the city and connect it to the rest of the interventions.
BUILT TOPOGRAPIES
Antonio Macia Roger
The fusion between the garden and the highway, the natural and the manmade develops in a hybrid where the relation between human and nature is reestablished inside the urban fabric. A proposal to a new way of understanding how the city and the natural environment can relate and by so redefining the introduction of nature inside cities. However, Built topographies is not only the introduction of greenspaces but how through these we can reshape communities.
The projects intentions are divided in two scales: urban and human scale. In first place, regarding the urban scale, project wants to act as a connector between the areas of Ringön and Lundbyvassen and by reinforcing this connection regenerate both areas. At the same time, the project wants to become a new point of natural diversity. A point from where vegetation can spread and grow through all the area and become part of a bigger scale grothw network.
Concerning the human scale, built topographies wants to become a place of interaction for the inhabitants of the area. A place to reinforce the sense of community and give a feeling of belonging to the so called, quarter or contrasts. Through the vegetable gardens and the pavilions on top the project generates a local economy where food can be produced and sold at one same place an by so giving identity to this forgotten area next to Gothenburg’s city center.
THE PUBLIC MACHINERY
Kelli Berg Mc Ilroy
Adressing a cultural vaccum at Ringön, this proposal invites the inhabitors to celebrate the collective experience of craft. This proposal beliefs that it is within our human nature to create and problem solve when we are in a state of wellbeing. The public machinery is to give one a route within the process of creation. Users are invited to build further, to expand the machinery. It invites a re-imagination of surrounding buildings.
The main intention is to bind broken narratives within the urban fabric with the proposal. Memories are to be shared amongst its users and inhabitors. The spaces are the Recovery space, Lecture-, Craft- and finally Exhibition space. The areas have different degrees of public and private spaces dependent on activities occuring within allocated rooms. It is to replicate the urban scale- the site, the medium scale- the proposal itself, and the small scale- the meetings within the rooms.
Water and land is invited and are a part of this machinery. Biodiversity is invited in terms of underwater and above water activity. No cell nor space the machinery constitutes are to be the other alike. The human scale is emphasised, especially seen to the hybrid space it forms, being allocated under the Hisingsbron. Vehicles are to be gradually taken over by bicycles and walkers on their way from city center to Ringön.
